Fight Club

I'd seen this movie years ago, so I already knew the story; but I read the book a few weeks ago, which gave me a craving to see Brad Pitt's muscles and hear the cool Pixies soundtrack again.

Here's something I don't remember noticing the other time I watched it: the Tyler Durden subliminal messages. He flickers into the picture for just a few frames every now and then (including perhaps one specific part of him at the end).

The movie ends a little bit differently from the book. I guess the book's ending is just a little bit more rational or realistic, but I'm not sure which ending I prefer.

But I can tell you that in general I prefer the movie, because man, that Brad Pitt sure is hot stuff.

  1. Both the book and movie are brilliant. I was completely blown away the first time I saw the film. It was perfectly cast and the subliminal messages are great.

  2. *Like*

I think I could watch it again myself. Good thing Eric bought it so I don't even have to rent it!
I am surprise I haven't watched it twice especially with the twist, I like going back to see if they really did it right. Kind of like Momento, did you see that? Another great movie.

  4. Bride, you really really do need to watch this one. Put it at the top of your DVD pile!!

Yes, Mandy, I saw Memento (only once, though) and LOVED that one. And I know what you mean about seeing if they did it right. I don't remember catching any inconsistencies this 2nd time around.

AR--I agree, especially about the casting. And I love that (the first time) I had NO IDEA about the twist--I didn't even know it was coming. Looking back, there were a few small clues, but I sure didn't pick up on them!

  5. I watched it again and loved it again. There are actually many subtle clues, but there is so much going on that they are very easily missed. I think the conversations with Marla were probably the most obvious, but still, I read that as just them being a bit loopy.

And Brad, well, he is just cut so nicely, what else do you really need in a movie? But I think he pulls off that slightly crazed very well. I can't decide if I like his clothes better in this or in the Ocean's movies. How does he make a shirt with orange, brown, and yellow oak leaves all over it look so damn sexy??

I did notice three times in the beginning of the movie, splices of Tyler, before you actually see him the first time on the airport people mover. I told Eric and he said, yeah I saw that. Well, I sure didn't and I only saw it this time since I was looking for everything. But since they do talk about splicing it was very appropriate to actually do it in the movie.

Thanks for reminding me of this one!!

  6. Glad you enjoyed it just as much the 2nd time around! There are some movies (ones we own on DVD, even) that I'll probably never watch again even though I enjoyed them the first time, but this is definitely one that is worth owning.

One of the biggest clues, to me, was when Edward Norton's character started beating himself up in his boss's office and said it reminded him of that first night with Tyler. The first time I saw the movie I wondered what he meant by that, but then I just mentally tossed it aside.

  7. I did the exact same thing. Wondered why he would think that and then forgot all about it. Also, the scene where he is talking to Marla and Tyler keeps telling him what to say from the basement.

I am glad we have the DVD, I may watch it again somewhere down the line. I agree many DVDs we do have I haven't even bothered to watch.

You need to add this to your Brad Pitt Category. :)
